Combines buying a R 40

R40's came in two era's pre 89 1_2 and late R40's. The later were the most updated of course. They were the same as R50's except seat in the cab was not as good, the cage was not chromed and it did not have grain bin extentions and HP was set lower (easy to fix this little detail) . The late model had a bin unloader switch in the hydro handle. ProblemsIJ Just regular stuff - no design problems. There were update kits to bring the early ones up to the latest production with the exception of the reel drive and hyd pump set up. This wasn't a big item either. The wear items to look for is the bin loader auger and tube, clean grain upper and lower drive sprockets, and grate and cage wear as they were not chromed. The R40's came with narrow spaced cyl bars which need to be switched to 3_4" bars unless you are in hard to thresh crops like spring wheat or the like. The R40 as out of the factory was almost like a 1640 - biger than the '20. We have several machines out that have had the upgrades listed under TIPS to your left there and then click on 'upgrades' and see what has developed through the years. These upgraded R40s have had bin extentions, pumps tweaked to '50 level, and they will run with 'bout any class 5 machine. As with any machine go over it with a fine tooth comb and go from there.
