Combines Cab lights

We took and put reflectors on a few of the lights (basically a piece of plastic cut to go around the bottom of the light so that the light pattern doesn't shine on the window). If i'm not mistaken i think we moved a couple of them around and added a few lights on top of the cab as well. If you want I can check on that for you, let me know. I might even have a picture of the lights.

I would be interested in anything you have regarding lights. The main problem around here is seeing a reflection of the sickle in the side windows. It is so clear that I can't determine whether I am seeing the side I am looking at or the other side. Thanks Tom in MN

On our 1983 l2 we had the same problem and a solution we found was to cut the sides out of a round plastic container and wrap it inside of the light tapering it out on the bottom side which is exposed to the window. It looks like a shute on the bottom but it is a very cheap solution to this problem and keeps the light out of the cab and off of the dirty window. Good luck to you! Brent

I would like to know if that helps Tom's problem also. Thanks Bert.

The most expensive option I can think of is trading for a Series II Gleaner. We had the same glare problem as you guys describe, but the Comfortech cabs are 1000% better. I don't know if it's the location of the lights on the newer cabs or the tinting they use on the cab glass, but it is a WORlD of difference for nightime operation. The dustier the conditions, the bigger the difference. I can remember cutting beans after sunset in extremely dry, dusty conditions and in some places not even being able to see the reel for window glare and dust. We can now see anything ahead of the combine. Dust off your wallets and trade up! ;) Tom langan

We did move a few of the lights but i can't remember which ones so I will check this weekend when i'm home. The reflectors around the lights did eliminate some of the mirror reflection that Tom was talking about. Trent

I like your idea but with poor prices most people cant afford a newer machine.

I have a 2001 R-52 with an 800 series header. I would like more light on the header and in front of the cutter bar. (Within 10 feet of bar). Where did you mount your lightsIJ Is the vibration of the head hard on the lightsIJ What type of lights did you useIJ (Flood) Is the reflection of the lights off of the reel a problemIJ Thanks. John (Cent Il)

I checked the combine we didn't move any of the lights just added two lights on top of the combine cab they made a difference on visibility. The glare was eliminated by the reflectors that are similar to the idea of cutting a container and putting it around the light. Hope you get your problem fixed i sure hated the glare. Trent
