By the sound of it you have a '92 or maybe '93 machine. If combine is newer it could of had concave replaced with earlier version. I believe by '93 the area it sounds like you are talking about was redesigned to make it imposible to tear loose. In fact Gleaner campaigned them earlier machines to stiffen the concave in key locations. Other posibilitys include eyebolt jam nut on one side or the other was loose at one time or the other. It takes a big man or a very hard pull to put proper torque on them nuts. Just a moderate pull on end wrench will not properly tighten alot of this stuff. If one side was loose at one time the crack could of started in concave and then with time it finished off. Without noticeing change in combine when front concave broke it would lead to rear concave broke and without noticing that the cage is going to have to take the pressure. Now when you rebuild be sure to sure helicals stand up a minumum of 1_2" and bars are good. Also be sure to add the third helical extention over feeder opening for that will drastically reduce load on left side of concave. little to no grumbling should be heard or felt with little material in grain bin when harvesting some of these viny crops. Finish off hyperizing and be sure not to skip the extended cylinder bars that Tbran mentioned. Sounds like a good time to set her up right. let us know the particulars of your combine and crops and you'll like get some good help hear if you don't allready have it figured out. Good luck
