I saw the sprockets at Marion's display in Indy this winter at NNTC...He really braged them up...There was more to it than just slowing the chain down, seems like it had to do with less head shellingIJ as the gathering chains protrude less into the row unit at the top...supposed to be king in down corn, less stalk breakage before the rolls get the stalk. I always thought the gathering chains should run same speed as the combine...Marion has a different opinion and backs it up with replicated testing. sure wish I could remember more about it.
