The statement about "sounds like combining rocks" is of much concern. Did the combine come with an owners manualIJ There is an adjustment mesurement for the feederhouse chain that is extremely important. If its too loose or one or more of the feed bars are bent it will hit the rock rotor. The sprocket stripper plates on the feederhouse drive shaft are also utmost important when combining long oats or grass, especially if its moist. If stems rap on the sprockets it will also cause the feeder chain to hit the rock rotor. And it may even cause the chain to break. Then you're in big trouble. On the rumble part, well, if all it is is a rumble without any mechanical grinding or metal to metal sounds, its probably normal. The rotor rumble just sounds kind of like a conventional machine does right before it plugs:) Tall oats cut with a 14' auger machine should be no problem for your 1680. It is however the perfect situation for having your impeller blade knives sharp and set up close to a good square front bearing kidney. If you are new the rotor world, when you do daily service check to make sure the front rotor shaft isnt rapped up next to the front bearing with oat stems. This will cause the bearing to fail quite rapidly.
