Combines canola loss on gleaners

Rolf, Thanks for the reply. We do run the canola boards on both machines. WE keep them as full as possible, usually 4-5 mph in good even swaths. With the board in, we are running around 4 on the wind, anything less and we get pure junk. Could be a difference in our fansIJ Do you run or reccomend air foil sieveIJ thanks, Chad

Thanks for the info. Rolf, glad to hear i don't have to rush out and buy an air-foil sieve. You hit the nail on the head when talking about possible leaking points, the N7 has 5500plus hours on it, seems to take more silicone and duct tape every year to seal her up. But it just keeps going and going. Thanks again, Chad

Same trouble here, I do use an air foil chaffer. To get a clean sample I do leave some canola on the ground, but when I think about spreading the amount that is lying behind sieves evenly across the swather width it might amount to my seeding rate or 5 lbs_acre. I'm sure this is lighter canola that is caught in wind blast from accelerator rolls and the board Rolf talks of will catch some of it. I'm going to try that board next year.

Not just old gleaners leak. A few years ago we had a new NH IJIJIJ

Accelerator roll need to be in very good condition. Also heard of some guys cutting front few louvers loose on chaffer and locking them open or install third handle to control them. There was a kit to do than many moons ago for high yeilding corn conditions. That suggestion would be for the machines before the longer shoe came out. One guy said he runs front few louvers open for all his small grains with no problem and has no lose.
