Before you blame the combine try to determine if the volunteers are from wind damage or if there was shattering when you picked up the swath. We like to leave a bit of chaff in our sample to prevent heating in the bin and keep more canola in the combine. Open your bottom sieve a little bit and cut the wind a bit. We leave half pods in the sample. Remember that about 8% of a bushel of canola will produce a crop, so it doesn't take much canola to look like you are throwing a lot over. Rod
