Combines Case Advertizing

I think Case IH is just shifting priorities. Both Grand Island and Racine are sold out for 2005 mainly due to sales in the US. So why advertize where their market share is good. Here in Ontario they are advertizing extensively. The current issue of Western Ontario Farmer has full page ads on both sections back pages, one for CIH, and one for NH. Reason is that Case market share in Ontario appears to be falling, and they are trying to drum up new business. It would also help sales if they had some product to sell on their dealers lots as don't have much. Presently the only equipment appears to be presold equipment only. John Deere is cleaning up here in Ontario in a big way.

Thoses fat heads at CNH corporate should concentrate more on rebuilding there parts network here in Ontario and keep the machines running that they have out before they worry about selling more junk. I have a 2188 and I love the combine but I have to admit that JD has a better parts network and also there are a lot more combine dealers for JD then CASEIH. I would definetely agree with you that JD is taking over. I just think people are buying green simply because there is nothing else stable enough to compare it to. Really makes those green guys heads get bigger. Happy Holidays fellas.

Converted Red: I agree that some parts fine tuning is needed. We had a hard time getting a vertical unloading auger for the 1660 last fall. Finally my dealer got one from a neighboring dealer. The one he ordered took a month to get. However, they need to start stocking their dealers with floor plan equipment as nobody in their right mind orders out of a salesman's catalog. Also they have abandoned the market with products that seem to sell (like the 5300 drill and 7500 plow). For the CNH brass, let it be known that we in the east have some heavy clay that needs to be plowed every second year or so. My old 720 plow is 27 years old and starting to show it's age. I noticed Kverneland plows on my dealers lot and asked him about that. He indicated you can't get the 7500 any more. That is real disappointing and is indicative of what many here in Ontario see as malaise at CIH. Even the JD dealers whom I am starting to deal with can't understand it either. You want a good used CIH 2188 or 2388 go to the best selection in town (the local JD dealer). Huron Tractor currently has four of them. That is where my 1660 came from. At the time (last June) I had 3 to choose from at huron tractor. That makes 7 CIH combines they have had in the last year. Huron Tractor themselves were amazed they took that many in. I asked why and they said some of the CIH customers felt that CIH were unstable and don't seem to care any more. They further indicated that the message they are hearing in the grapevine is that it is all about New Holland and they don't really care about CIH products. Another area of lost market share is to McCormick for the Maxxum tractors. look at the number of McCormick tractors on their own dealers lots. And the McCormicks are selling. Dielman down in Wallacetown even took a Magnum in on a new ZX McCormick. And I think this is a prelude of things to come next year in Ontario. Watch and see if McCormick ZX tractors don't start appearing on southern Ontario lots when their dealers can't get Magnums on a floor plan. The bottom line is that here in Ontario CIH is getting their lunch eaten by John Deere, McCormick, and Kubota bad enough to lose serious market share. Does New Holland careIJ Who knowsIJ One thing for sure is that is not the way I would manage a company. They need to take a lesson from the late Alexander legge (a senior manager at IH in the 1900 - 1930 period). When Henry Ford was challenging the 10-20 Titan with the Fordson on price, legge stated to his sales people to match Ford of course and not surrender market share. Time will tell.

Ya over the years i've been seeing more Red at Huron Tractor. I think NH is dragging Case down the tube. A friend of mine bought an MX170 from Vincents with a 10yr warranty. He was told that because Case wouldn't be around in 10yrs, that they were giving people that warranty. JD dealers always have new equipment sitting on lots. Only a few Case dealers do. Very intersting. Ya Case made a HUGE mistake by selling off to McCormicks. Didn't take long for alot of Case dealers to take on McCormick. Take care, Nathan

I'm not a big Case fan but in their defense, they didn't have a choice when it came to McCormick. When CaseIH and NH merged, the government regulators forced them to sell off their MX line and the plant in Doncaster, England. McCormick came along with an offer, and they had to take it. The real problem is that the NH based tractor (I think called the MXMIJ) that replaced the MX was a lot less popular.

at our CIH dealer it is just the opposite, in the winter and summer we make sure we get in enough loner tractors and combines for those people who have breakdowns in the spring and fall, usually 2-3 MX's and 1660's come in for those who need them.the last two 270's that came in were sold before they went on the lot so we need to get a couple more. there is 2 deere dealers within 15 miles of us and everyone says how do they make it, there is never anything on the lot.we have about 12 mechanics 5 parts guys and 4 salesman, because we know when the push is on people want to run.

People can say what they want about the boys that were up in Mitchell at Ward's but those guys sure did stock parts for IH combines, especially the 88. I sometimes wonder if that's why maybe there is more at Huron now then normal. I see they have a steady flow of 21 and 2388 now and no used 9650sts. I think guys here in Ontario are loosing faith in Case. Have a good Christmas fellas, thanks for all the help this year, the best to you and your families.
