Combines Case IH 1460 Oil leak

How attached are you to this 1460. Unfortunatly, fixing this oil leak is usually expensive. You will have to remove the lH side panel, the hydro and the PTO. Normally, there isn't anything wrong with the seal, but with the shaft. This shaft, which drives the hydro pump, as well as the seperator, is supported at the outer end by a bearing, and a bushing in the flywheel at the inner end. For some reason, some enginer decide the bushing needed to be harder than the shaft, therefore, wearing the end of the shaft enough that the seal will leak. In nearly all my experiences in four years with CIH, a new shaft was required to fix the problem. And usually, the gears are showing enough wear to warrant the replacement. Sorry I'm the bearer of bad news!!!

715 most likely is right. Just fixed the bushing on my 1460, had machine shop make one to fit the worn shaft. Also put new seal in. Could also be rear main seal on engine.Had 3900 hrs. on it.

Case dealer fixed that leak on my 1460. Mechanic estimated it would take 6-7 hours and I don't remember if that was for one or two people. Combine was already in their shop for other work. The shaft was sent out to a machine shop to have a hardened sleeve fitted to the end, that was about $160. Also replaced the rear seal on the engine since it was easy to get to at that time. I don't know what the total for the leak repair came to since it was included with other work.

this is not aterribly big job and not expensive to repair. Remove the big side sheet on the left side first. Then drain hy-tran and take lines loose from hydro pump.Support engine, take bell housing loose and whatever else is in the way and remove pump and housing as one unit. Do not remove shaft from housing.Remove old seal and put in two new seals , use some JB Weld if you think they are a little loose.Put inthe new bearing and build up the shaft with some brazing rod.File it down by hand alittle till it is snug in the new bearing. It will last for years without leaking.
