I had a 6 row IH 800. If you set the brush on the drum correctly and set the rate according to the book, it would drop an almost perfect population. I'm running a 955 8 row now, it does well on population also. Not sure about the monitor error, you may have some damaged wires some place you can see.

If the monitor cable runs thru the toungue, that's a good place for a mouse nest and they'll chew and pee on it resulting in corrosion. Those wires are finer than frog hair and almost can't be repaired, a complete harness would fix all if console box in cab is OK.
