G'Day mailman13 Now don't get me wrong here!!! ( Im surrounded with Case headers with 1020 flex fronts!!!) But the Gleaner flex (530 that I run) has had it's moments but it has a lot bigger flex range than a Case flex and larger skid plates than the Case and after some mods and the right knife it will run as good if not a lot better than a Case flex!!! I run ours in both wheat, lentils, canola, linseed and canary seed. It's cutting around 2500 acres a year, 50% of it in flex mode it's a 94 model!! I can't see why you would need to have a different colour head on your machine as there would be a lot more cutting and hacking to get a Case head to fit compared to getting your Flex 520 to work really good! Yes you might need to do some work on your front if you want to do some remintion shaving with your flex 520. We were doing 8+ km_hr (5+ mph) with our flex in 1.5 t_Ha lentils this year!! Very happy camper here!! (only at the speed bit!!!!) Ask some questions and tell us what you weren't happy with on the flex 520 that you had,as we might be able to help sort some of the problems that you had!!! Here are some suggestions to start you off with! Fly wheel on wobble box pulley, double stabilizer bars, thicker sheet steel on back of head, double cut no choke fingers, double cut knife, having the front set up level, adjusting the knife bar level in flex mode then adjusting the auto height control linkages, Highly recommend a later model AHHC (I have a 99 model AHHC on mine! not hard to retrofit at all. Also it is imperative that the rest of the combine is able to feed what you think the head should stuff up in there!!!! no point having the front (head!) doing all the cutting and stuffing that you want but the rest of the combine coughing and wheezing with a tummy ache!! let us know what's you weren't happy with and let us know!
