Combines Cast iron grates breaking STS

Cost is probably driving the use of cast. Deere wanted to keep costs low (not the price though). I would much rather see steel throughout a threshing and separating systems vs. cast. Steel bends and can be reshaped, cast cracks and shatters and requires replacement ($$$). The STS threshing and separating components would be alot more foregiving if they were steel. look inside of a lexion they are all steel inside no cast on any part of the theshing or spearating system and they handle rocks very well and they even remain with much more durable steel auger fingers as a result.

seen some break from small rocks. easy to replace a grate rather that dent the rotor.

CASEIHC has always had steel grates, and have never seen the rotor dent because of it. I guess one could install a CASEIHC style grate and give it a try.
