Yes the swap can be made, and less then $20,000. Dealer told me that a new CDF rotor for an R52 cost $5,200 american, that being so I would think that the R72 CDF Rotor could be bought for less than $10,000 american.

Priced the rotor today $6400 with bars. But will it save straw as well as a conventional.

Short answer, No! No rotor or natural flow will leave straw like the old walkers. What they will do is save far more grain. If you want full lenght straw you are out of luck. My straw custumers sold their bedding choppers and welcome the shorter straw. By the way you do not loose much straw if you keep it in a tight windrow and use the newer pickup balers. Good luck, Dave

But the straw from the CDF is decent enough to bale correctIJ I am mainly talking about oats straw. I understand that the rotory will beat the straw up to a certain extent but it still should be decent enough to bale. All the people I combine for have new or near new balers. The 9600 beats the hell out of the straw compared to our l2.

Yes, baling is not a problem. If you want longer straw you can take out the chopper and use the solid impeller but I just leave in the standard chopper and withdraw the knives.
