Combines CDF Rotor loss In Wheat

Magnum man, I removed the helicals above the seperator grate (removable door)and installed a rasp bar to give the straw a tumble at this spot. I also have the steep pitch and cut the straw at the ground (flex). Rotor loss has been minimal but I have never cut 100 bushel wheat though.

Was it a CDFIJ I think they are different animal. I do no think i ever had this much loss with a 8 bar open rotor.

give us more info - combine, header size, what type wheat, how many grians per running foot with spreader removed. Having said that, try lower concave setting , 1_8 or 1_16 th. Remove the helicals on the access panel cage assy just above the separator grate.

R65 30 Ft. Head. Soft Red Winter Wheat. 70 - 110 Bushel. THe Straw is being spread 70 inches wide and there is probably 150 grains to the square foot across the straw spread width. Straw is green. I rethreaded my bolts to get concave to zero. Running on zero now. You can find a head once in while with grains in it.

Are you sure it is coming through the rotor and not being blown out. I have had problems blowing it out in years past. This year I installed a small seeds kit in the fan, will start late this week to see how it does.

Are you topping the straw, cutting half way down or putting all the straw thruIJ I am cutting all the straw (dry) and never have seen losses close to that. Is it an easy thresh wheatIJ I put in just enough concave blanks to ensure all heads are threshed and run the rotor fast enough to allow the wheat to seperate before most leave the concave.

Run as fast as you can in the crop till beeper then back off a few revs! wind up full, shouldn't need any filler bars in concave with crop yield like that!! (I wish ) been greenish crop it's gon'a take time from grain to get out of straw and separator, try opening up concave progressively to see if your hitting it to hardIJ you might find sweet spot with an unexpected setting!! let us know how you get on. it takes about 380 grains per running foot under the spreader to equall one bushel loss w_ 30'hd. At 90 bu _a you theoretically have less than a half bu loss. Again pull the spreader and recheck. A half bu _a in green straw is accpetable around here as it is less than half percent harvest loss. By the looks of volunteer wheat in the volunteer state each year you are better than most.

Please clear something up for me. When you talk running square foot are you assuming all the grain gets dumped in 1 square foot under the discharge. If i drop my spreader there is grain on the ground at least 2 feet wide. So do count the grains in 1 square foot to get loss or should i count across the whole 2 feet and figure that. In my previous statement If i figure the grain being lost in a 70 inch wide spread at 150 grains to the foot across the whole 70 inches and put all that in 1 square foot i would have 2.31 bushel an acre loss. 70_12=5.84 feet * 150=876_380=2.31 Since then i have put 2 more reverse bars in on thresher side (4 total now on thresher side). I can go about 3 MPH in 100 bushel wheat at 18% moist and tough straw. I dropped my spreader and can count around 200 grains per square foot under windrow. The grain loss is 2 feet wide. So do i have .53 bushel an acre loss (200_380=.53)or 1.06 bushel (200*2=400_380=1.06) an acre loss. I figure if i have rotor loss at 1% or less i am not going to try to get it any better. I am eating approx 30 inches of straw.
