The dealer had it under shrouding instead of really down internal, like I thought. Going down friday to pick up machine and to be shown the location. How's a digital snap shot sound and sent to Marvin to post if i can.

These high speed fluid couplings that are used on these Deutz engines has a nice by product of its operation. That would be a cup that will catch and hold heavy particals in oil that centrifucal force sends outward. Even with this so called filter filled up you still have as good of filtration as most any engine. The V8's even us a bypass filter for extra cleaning capability. With that said you may gather that we don't ever clean that so called filter unless of course we are switching the fan. It is a rather large job to get at this so called filter. Don't let me talk any one out of tearing down to clean out but I just don't think it is something to get all worried about.

You are thinking of the cooling fan coupler. The coupler would fill up with contaminants like a centrifugal filter.

We had a snap ring break which let the fan hit the housing on a 92 R62 several years ago and found that coupler area packed full of gunk just like a centrifugal filter. Our dealer didn't think the crud had anything to do with the snap ring failure, but after being down for several days waiting for parts and spending mucho buck$, I would have had that area inspected regularly had we kept the machine much longer. Happened at around 1400 engine hours.
