When this long shoe first come out there were complains of short straw in sample. Gleaner quickly speeded up fan a bit and had us weld in an angle iron at front of chaffer. Don't know if that helped but I never did have a problem. I did hear of guys on custom run that took that dam out or just bent it up. I bent the legs up on the first machines and haven't made any special effort to do it since. When I bent them up I just bent them up to run parralel with chaffer. I don't know if it was in '97 or later Gleaner started installing chaffers that the front few rows closed faster than rear. Maybe tring to get more air to rear of chaffer for some conditions. Anyway I don't know what to tell you but I think it looks better with dam bent at least parralel. likely no problem in corn or heavy seeds with it bent all the way up or removed. Good luck
