Combines Chaffer mod refresher needed

Tom, The super chaffer hyper upgrade is all HyperII's idea.Remember if you've got the long shoe then the first three or four rows have dead air.We've tried cutting and rewelding the front 6-8 rows on the short shoe chaffer a bit wider but they were always wrong.(got'em to wide most times)With the third handle you can always get where you need to be.On the short shoe chaffer cut the front 6-8 rows loose and attach a third contol lever. Run those rows 1_8-1_4 inch further open than the middle.(3_16 about right) We've found you can now run the middle a bit futher closed for an even cleaner sample with more capacity.Upgrade works super on hills and in hi moisture corn or other shoe limiting situations.Reason being an intense blast of air at the very front of the chaffer helps enhance the fact that corn or grain being heaviest falls through first at the front.You can run the front rows open wider with out adding fm. The cobbs and chaff fall through the back half of the chaffer where the grain load is least.Worst case you can still set it back to stock.Bottom line the supper chaffer will help add a little more(clean speed) bounce to your burlap bag.Good luck! I have had only 1 handle on my chaffer since I first welded the sections together about 20 years ago. The only change I made is opening the front few rows after reading advice on this board. I have been pleased with the results in the only crops I raisecorn and soys. Tom in MN

Are you saying we don't need to change the long chaffer or that we need to close the first rows down someIJ I have a 97' R-62 (only 1 handle) and haven't used it in corn or soy yet. On my R50 I cut loose the first 6 rows and welded a bolt under the front control strap. Then I welded a tab on the rear portion. I could adjust the difference between the front and middle portion by sliding the chaffer part way out to reach the nuts on the bolt.

I thought of doing something quite similar to that too - only using a turnbuckle between the mid and front sections to adjust. How often do you need to adjust the differenceIJ If its often enough, I'd be inclined to just add another control handle to eliminate having to pull the chaffer out partway. When the crops are ready and the weather is good, every minute counts.

Would you recommed this modifation on the long or short chaffers in the l series If so how many rows would be controled by third leverIJ thank you for any info.

Tom, Add the third lever,you won't regret it.Sometimes when changing hybrids with different moisture content will warrant changing the front louvers.A lot of times we run the long round super chaffer in beans also with the teeth layed almost flat to a beans width open.(Works well as long as the stems are not pulverizing.)
