Combines Changing 844 to 863

He-man, I'm afraid you are out of luck in trying make a 6r 30" out of a 4r38" or 40" head. Just imagine leaving the two end dividers on and then taking out the three 40" dividers in the middle (if you have the largest) to make room for five 30" dividers, you would have to add 30" or 15" on each side, then the auger is too short. A few yrs ago we took a 1084 (8r-38) and made it into a 10r-r 30". We were 4" too short, had to add 2" to each side and were able to mount the auger on inside of the end sheets by making 2" brackets to fasten the 2 bearings that supported the auger. We needed more brace supports because the ends drooped(didn't know how to fix) and that caused the hex drive shafts to break, ran that way 4 seasons. This past season we traded our 10 row frame for a 12 row frame from Brad Bish. Used our row units + 2 others we had extra to finish the 12 row hd, it worked well, I would recomend this route for anyone wanting to go larger than 8 rows. Sorry to be so long.

To change our 4 row 38" to a 6 row 30", we had to add 18" to each end of the frame.

560man, That would be correct for a 38" hd, my example was using a 40" hd, the largest of the 4row hds or as much frame as possible to show that it is still way too short. What did you do to get the extra length on the augerIJ

We actually had two 844's to start with, so we cut the best flighting off of the two augers and welded the pieces onto a new pipe. We looked into new flighting, but it was pricey in our opinion. The hex shafts in each end of the auger are about a foot long and are welded into two disks that are welded into the auger tube. We cut the shaft_disk assemblies out of the old tube and welded them into the new one. We also had a machine shop bend new tin to go under the auger, since the old pieces weren't long enough. let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the input. You guys have provided some good insight. I guess I will keep looking for a 6row head.
