How is the airflow into the alternatorIJ We had that problem and found that rigging something to keep the screen from filling with dust sure helped.

Take a digital voltmeter back on the batteries and check your voltage (should be between 13.4-14.5v),compared to up in the cab. I have seen bad connections at the battery cable where the alternator wire is crimped into the cable (newer models I think) or a bad connection down on the starter post. The alternator could be OK and these other problems could contribute to poor charge. If your voltage is considerably less up in the cab, place to check is voltage drop across the two terminals on your cab solenoid (behind the right hand cab panel). With all your lights on and fan on high, I would say voltage drop should be less than 0.3v. If it is considerably more than that replace the cab solenoid.

The air flow is better then the 1460's I have as they changed the styling a little on the 16 series. Still far from perfect. The voltage drop occurs with a clean alt. I have a suspicion that the cab solenoid is my problem as I usually smell hot wiring or plastic after running the lights for awhile and I shut off the cab fan as the air quits moving and you can smell the air a little better. It might also be a corroded connection at the solenoid or thereaboutIJ Does all the power in the machine pass thru the solenoid in the right side consoleIJIJ Thanks a lot for the help, guys!!
