I have known the man who operates the machine for sometime, and he also runs a 1660, if you would have read the rest of the post you would have gotten that, so yes he has something to compare it to.
I ran MF for years. Went to CIH while back. MF would do a good job in the field of harvesting the grain. The Perkins was VERY fuel efficient. I felt they broke down more often than they should have, and when they did I found Agco parts were a lot higher than CIH parts. ..My .02...............................Mark
The bottom line is you didn't know how to set it. I run an 8 row head on my 760 and I clean the field, does such a good job the cattle are the ones getting screwed. As far as fuel efficiency my AV8-540 Perkins is terrible compared to the 510 we run. For the right operation a Massey is a perfect fit, it's nice you can afford 9600's and 1680's but I don't really care. Any combine can do the job it's knowing how to set them that makes all the difference. While there are many things I don't like about the Massey for the capacity and the price they are hard to beat. My 2 cents.
Well, it sure as hell wasn't ME running the 750! You wouldn't find me in that thing, and the best day was when the guy sold it on his farm sale. That guy has spent more time in and around combines than most of us EVER will. After owning all Massey combines in all his years of farming, you'd think he'd know a thing or two about setting them.
IF a guy can buy a 750 right and have it work well, then good for him. I dont understand the controversy. I live in the northeast and run a 1974 510 hydro diesel. Its been a trouble free machine. my friend bought a JD 4400 for much more than my 510. Unfortunately he keeps paying, its the other kind of mf (money funnel). I wont hesitate to replace the 510 someday with 750 or 760.
I just call them like I see them and if one falls apart worse on me then another you bet your noodles I'm going to crow about it far and loud. If you will notice I did mention a couple good points as well. I'm just not going to let some guy come on here and start bragging that these machines are the greatest thing since sliced bread compared to what we have at our disposal today. Man you must of hated that machine from the day you got it! With all those crook bearings sounds like it spent a couple of seasons parked out in the snow. When I bought my silver 760 the same amount of dollars would of got me a green yeller or maroon one at least another ten years older, half the capacity, with twice the hours on and they would have truly been a P.O.S. Most of the major bearings on mine are still original, the murphy switch has NEVER malfunctioned, I am 53 yrs and 210lbs and can get to the ac unit easily, as far as I know NONE of em this old had a factory reverser, green parts are dearer than any other colour out here, If we do our between season maintenence properly this unit does not cause us greif and when they are this old If you dont look after em they all break!! Secondhand and FOR THE MONEY you cant beat an old massey.
The truth finally is spoken. We have had Masseys from the n21,90, 90special,410,510,(2)751s,(2)860s,8560,and now a 8570, put all of our break downs together and we couldn't touch all of that trouble. I guess our time going over the machines in the summer pays off. And we don't get a big bill from our dealer, I'd rather keep my money, instead of paying someone to do a Greenlight on the equipment.
