Good question, neither my 1480 SP or 1482 pull type combine had any way of checking the tailings without opening the elevator trap door. The 914 walker type, pull type combines have a little lever operated, slide valve trap door in the tube that connects grain pan to tailings elevator. This tube fits a 1480 _ 1482 by trimming a couple inches off the inside end. The reality is that once you get your adjustments worked out,you rarely use the slide valve tailings checker, so may be why the factory omitted installing one. One note, is that If you harvest a lot of small seeded grains where the shoe sieve is run nearly closed, especially if you use an air foil chaffer, you need to make some changes to the shoe seive to prevent too much air getting trapped under that (shoe)sieve. Otherwise it will tend to blow a lot of grain into the return.
