Combines CHIS support needed by harvesters

Good luck in getting JD on board, when you control a majority of the market this would make it easier to loose it. I would think though that CNH_Agco would be receptive it would make it easier to get marketshare from big Green. Your correct that it would be a big bonus for us farmers, we would be able to buy the best working head and run it on the best working combine. The manufacturers would be forced to pickup their socks so to speak on header technology and we might see some real advancements.

It seems like if a company does a good job building headers, then they would also support CHIS standards, as it would expand their market oppootunity to more machines. There are already standards that make it convenient to attach implements to various tractors 3 point hitch and PTOs. Also SAE standards exist so that any semi tractor can hook onto any semi trailer via the 5th wheel hitch. SkidSteer attachment interface has been standardized recently. That standard basically creates a standard picture frame and pin retention, similar to our CHIS proposal. All of these type of standards improve safety and convenience, while also giving farmers more purchasing options and improving competition. Doing the same for Combine Header Interface Standards (CHIS) just makes sense. But it will take a coalition of farmers asking for this and supporting this to get the majors to move on it. I can also show them an improvement in reliability via the centerline drive while also reducing component overall cost since drive lines would not have to be run all the way out to the end of the headers. Granted, it is a tough challenge pursuading them to work together toward this goal. It has to come from the grass roots and farmer organizations.
