Have you considered The Disrupters for your seperation section. Most guys think that they are as good as a chopper but alot cheaper. We have over 8000 sets in service. Call me any time. Don at Estes Mfg. Co. 1-800-235-4461.

Here is a link to the outfit selling TSR aftermarket choppers. Redekop makes one too that grinds everything including the chaff.

I put a new Case IH chopper in a late 1981 model 1460 back in 1998. It was expensive but was one of the best machinery investments I have ever made. The improvement for cultivating soybean land was immense. No more swearing at plugged cultivator. Any 1460 from mid 1981 production and on can be easily upgraded with a new factory 2366 chopper. For the 1460 and early 1660 you will need to buy the 4 spline quill shaft also. Incidentally the Case IH chopper is only marginally more expensive than the aftermarket unit. Your other alternative is to trade it for a combine that already has one. Either way you will pay for the price of that chopper. I know, because I tried to trade mine before installing the new unit and nobody wanted it on a trade without a chopper. The first question I got asked is does it have a chopper. The second question was does it have a specialty rotor. In this area specialty rotor and chopper bring an extra $13,000 for an average 1660.

For what it's worth I think putting Estes disrupters and green maze bars in is as good as having a chopper.

Hi John, Yep you're going to need to change the pedistal the drive gearbox mounts on and the drive for the rear spinners in addition to the chopper components. Those parts shouldn't be hard to find used. Do you have any salvage yards close byIJ The complete chopper unit I e-mailed you earlier has been sold but can call the local yard and he will alert me if another comes in,if you want to go that direction..What crops are you wanting to use the chopper for, and have you considered the disrupters or the sharktooth grateIJ

i owned a 1420 with a chopper and the belt and pulley system is a headache, i had so many problems and one fire because of it. ill never own another IH with one. the new style choppers with the upper gearbox are ok though ,just my 2cents.
