Combines CHOPPERS

I have seen one made in Canada that has twice the hammers of the old Gleaner ones and hammers are sharpened. The guy had run it one season and really liked it. Gleaner has a similiar one available now as option and it looks like chopper concave knifes are also sharpened. I imagine you have heard of the stationary concave knifes that Todd @ Clinton Ag. makes. I believe Todd uses JD row head knifes and I've heard of another guy that made up bracket to protrude them knifes threw cage on seperator side where the old pegs would stick threw on the P1's. He had to slice cage to stick them in far enough to just clear cylinder bars. He claimed that worked very well to slice the green soybean straw. He had an old N6 or N7 and didn't want to go threw the trouble and expense to install factory chopper. Sorry I guess I expanded a little on chopping. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by spiral chopper but the one I mention just replaces the chopper rotor that is currantly in machine.

Dan, I remember seeing some picture of those cage knives but I can't remember where I saw them. It probably was on this site but I can't seem to find them now. Does anybody else remember seeing them tooIJ Pete Hinrichsen

neighbor said he went to a dealer that said he doesn't sell any 72's that it's 62's. if anybody might have a picture of this animal, lets take a look. maybe it wouldn't last in corn even with the knives out. i'm going to find out more on this thing. i've got a set of clinton ag knives but yet to put them in, cause i'm selling our wheat straw. our bean straw just didn't weather this last winter due to lack of moisture and snow cover. hope the clinton knives do a better job than oem.

I've got picture out of parts CD for the Gleaner one. My address is dhurtt@polarcomm.com and is still incorrect on this page. Get me your email address and I'll fire it toward you. Maybe someone smarter than me can make link to it on this page. It says there are 12 hammers but I believe it is 12 sets of 2!!!! and drawing only shows mounts for 5 but is only a drawing. I have a custumer that installed a jobber one and likes it. I saw a jobber one like he installed at dealership in Portage laPrairie, Manitoba last winter during a visit. Maybe a call to Gary at 204-857-5130 AG West Eq. would get you a photo or manufacture name. Maybe Gary could give you a couple testamonials on performance but be careful he may sell you a dozen before you get off phone. looks like Gleaner kit is likely available now for $1300US range. Don't know price on jobber kit or what all it includes, maybe just rotor with blades attached. It looks like pulley for speed up, floor,belt, and concave knifes ect. would come with Gleaner kitIJIJIJ I think chopper would survive just fine in corn with knifes retracted and chopper rotor on slow just like standard chopper we are used to. Yep Rolf has installed cage knifes to try for better seperation in some crop. I believe the pegs they used in old P1s would be more benificial to aiding seperation. Of course it would make difference why seperation was not complete. The knifes I was talking about a guy put in for last harvest to chop up tough soybean straw. He said it worked well but I do not know if I have a good description of exactly how he did it or who he even was. I could likely find a note I made when he called if I tried hard enough. I know he said he has them just clearing cylinder bar but I don't know how many he put in. I would have to imagine he has them located every 1 1_4" or so for a couple feet. I will pay more attention if I hear from him again.
