loewen and St John Welding are two aftermarket source that come to mind. I don't think hard chrome bars are recommended if you grow seed beans.

looks to me like they have either type bar. This is copied from ther loewen site: "CYlINDER BARS Improve combine performance by replacing your worn and damaged Cylinder Bars with long lasting loewen bars. All sets are matched for equal weight distribution on the cylinder, and come complete with Grade 8 hardware. For longer wear and more strength, install a set of Hardened or Chrome Cylinder Bars. The longer lasting threshing edge helps prevent grinding straw and sends less chaff into the cleaning system. Keeps combine at peak capacity longer while maintaining threshing speed. CORN and SOYBEAN BARS Hardened cylinder bars with half the number of teeth to allow for effective threshing of the larger kernels with minimal damage." I think St John Welding has both too.

Yes, I believe loewen has chrome alloy bars for the specialty rotors. They supply both styles.

No, I was wrong - they have chrome alloy bars for the CASEIHC combines, and chrome plated for JD. I don't know who would have chrome alloy for JD. I haven't ever seen or heard of any around.
