yes. Pro..last more than 2X longer. Con..cost more than mild steel, but way less than 2X. Guess that was a pro, sorry. That's about it.

We have used both. The Chrome last longer by more than twice. However we have had some crack to the mounting bolts. At our green light last yr we replaced the full set and the new ones from JD seem to be made of softer steel. No cracks but had to straighten a few and never had to straighten old set.

If you do not have any rocks the crome is the way to go, they do last 2x, but are so hard they are a bit brittle and will crack and break sooner than a black bar. If you have rocks, put in the black set, they will take an impact and bend rather than crack. Then you can just press them back into shape. Most guys who have the crome bars and rocks in my area never get the extra life out of the bars due to rock damage.

Chrome is the way to go in most uses. They shouldn't be used in white corn or other "soft crops".

It's cheaper to replace the black ones if they crack or bend or whatever. The chrome ones will last approx. twice as long but they aren't very forgiving when it comes to foreign objects.
