Combines Cleaning area quesion

HP is more important, but you have to have the cleaning area or you won't be able to have a clean sample. The 50 Series Deere combines and the 60 Series have the same cleaning area, but on the 60 Series they changed the way the grain hit the sieve area and they changed the air flow and improved capacity by 20%. Believe me, this works. My neighbor found it out last fall and put the new sieve parts in his 9750sts and he was able to go 1 mph faster in corn because his losses were much better and this wasn't even putting in the new fan which flows more air in a different direction. I know the other combines have more sieve capacity, but it's not that big of a deal. Kinda like putting a 6-row head on a 9750sts. Know what I meanIJ

Kind of hard to compare apples to apples. The rotor 'cages' are all different lengths and will separate more or less of the material based on the design of the rotor and cage. If the rotor and cage keep most non grain material in then you would not need as much cleaning area, however you should need more HP to thresh all the trash to the end of the rotor.

The 60 series has a wider concave than the 50 series by 7_8 of inch. This help out the return side, this helps in getting a cleaner sample.

Unless I missed seeing something the only real change between the 50 and 60 series STS sieves is that they gave the short grain pan a raised angle. This retards the movement of material onto the prechaffer long enough to better stratify the grain under the chaff. Other companies which as you mensioned have larger cleaning areas already have grainpans of sufficient length to stratify the material before hitting the prechaffers in those machines. What JD should do is produce a kit with a similar grainpan for older walker combines.

How difficult was it to put the new sieve parts in the 50 seriesIJ Did he have to modify muchIJ Where did he get the parts and how much did they costIJ I would like to do this on my 9650 STS if it will make a difference in cereals and canola.
