No one around my area runs knife rolls on the yellow heads. The standard straight flute only. I have never heard of a NH 996, 96C or 98C (all the same head, 996 had small feeder opening for TR,TX combine, 96C had large opening but was not HHC equipted for new series, 98C has electrical and hydraulic connections for new combines) head just popping the ears at the front like you are saying. My thought is that the row units must be running too fast. What I know of the red versions is only from what I've been told. From what I understand the red version only drives from the left side and has some 2 speed gearbox attached on that driveIJ The NH head only has the option of changing to a faster sprocket combination inside the oil bath chain cover. If your parts man at any of the dealers wanted to find out the specs on those header parts they only needed to call parts assistance.

Nice to learn that dealers should be able to call parts assitance. But in this case I am glad they didn't. Only problem is once again solution, comes from outside CNH or least I hope so, haven't received the parts yet. (Money back guarantee at least)...better than C-IH or NH. Seems funny how this outside source read my mind and understood my problem. Even stated in conversation what I had been thinking all along...Why did CNH sell us such converted junk (chicken plucker) in the first place, when we were all used to that shaved look of the previous model heads.
