Combines Combine backfeeds in dry canola

It's the shape of the slat---as the chain goes around the top end of the feeder house, the slat is shaped so that the material is forced into the cylinder---and it really works!! In short or very slick crops, this chain will feed where a regular feeder chain will plug. Wouldn't have a combine without one!

I never considered that the cylinder was full of material that was going round and round for the ride. I had always thought that because the material was coming back down the top of the feeder house that it was not being caught by the cylinder. You are suggesting that the cylinder is full and nothing can be caught. Gives me more to look at next season when in canola again. Why do you think that the CAT 470-480 series does not have this problem. It is essentially a cts combine.

don't know if this applies to you or not but we had the same trouble with our older 7720,it would back feed in wet soybeans, finally took out center divider in feeder house it helped some, did all the things stated here but in the end it was the cylinder bars that needed replaced. When we did that all the troubles went away. They didn't look that bad,but were worn enough not to grab the incoming grain and send it around

Would a double swath windrow (ie. 50 feet) help improve the feeding in the shorter dry canolaIJ
