Actually, the SISU will start going in the Massey and Gleaners next month according to contacts in Duluth. I have a relative who is an engineer for Cat (on industrial side) who works with another engineer who just relocated to US from Europe. This individual stated that SISU takes second to nobody in Diesel quality and performance including Cat. Just my 2 cents FYI.

Thanks for the comments....I tend to believe the service man from my Massey dealer also who told me to just wait for the SISU.

Wait for the new engine and I would recomend buying from your Massey dealer.Massey dealers are ag dealers, always were and always will be.Massey people care about farmers whereas Challenger people are just looking to sell.

I disagree, the greatest value that a CAT dealer has to offere is product support, which is probably second to none. What most farmers have trouble dealing with is that a CAT dealer does not care for the emotions that farmers often times bring to the table during down time. Business is business, and crying over spilled milk is nothing more than irritating. I the 6 years that I have been doing business with a Cat dealer, my dealer has yet to let me down. Sure, there is always the occasional part that isn't in stock or the field tech is busy on another job, but they always keep their word.

Wait for the Sisu. Those engines are amazing. lots of guys in Europe have put 15,000hrs or more on them with little to no problems. I'd wait for the Sisu. Take care, Nathan

I see only two options in your situation: The current Cat engine in the Challenger or the Sisu in the MF. Obviously both combines will be the same other than the engine difference as far as performance is concerned. You have been well advised by both of your trusted friends that the Cummins is not the way to go. As far as which engine is better between the Cat versus the Sisu, I don't think anyone will or can dispute the strength of the Cat engines, and the C9 seems to be one tough engine. As for the Sisu, I know they too have a good reputation. There will, of course, be a learning curve for many of the AGCO dealers to be trained on them, whereas Cat dealers will be very well prepared. The Sisu will be a great improvement over the Cummins, I am sure, but stating at this point that it is better than a Cat would be a stretch to say the least. It has to prove itself in the combine first; tractor engines and combine engines have different requirements. I would have to disagree with the post recommending the MF dealer on the basis of their competence with ag customers. If I assume by your name that you are from MN, then your Cat dealer would be Ziegler, and their service is superb, not that the MF dealer's isn't. But don't discount the many capabilities Cat dealers have over most other ag shops. Factors you should weigh include competence of personnel at both locations, parts availability, what happens if you need a loaner combine, and so forth. Whatever brand you choose, the base combine is a fine machine.

I know a farmer who runs a 670 and 9790 side by side and says that the fuel consumption and power are almost the same. I guess who ever you like better for service, the Cat store is union and now at harvest are out on strike. I like the 8.3 inthe8780 andwonder if it is worth it to go to a 8780 xpIJ I really like the8780 and will buy one for next harvest, currently rented one to run beside our 8680.
