Combines Combining Soybeans

Well here is the deal, we combined 10 acres in two hours but that also includes changing fields, stopping and checking for loss, etc. I was more than satisfied with the machine though, with the C2 we combined 12 acres on a good day. The 1 1_2" pipe we already had worked ok for us and the automatic header heighth control took all the fun out of it. The only problem we noticed is that the cutter bar is adjusted a little high so we are going to lower it, and we out ran the cutterbar at 3.5 mph. Will lowering the cutter bar solve this problemIJ Because it was shoving the beans over. Does anyone ever run the variable header speed up to make the cutter bar cut faster, I know this could cause problems if it is going too fast. We are running a 20' head and we weren't running our best beans but it would still run as fast as we could move in 2 gear with the hydro 4.5 to 5 mph, that is if the cutter bar could keep up. The machine only plugged once when I had the reel too high and it got a wad under the feeder beater. Thanks for everyones ideas. Curt

We always run our head as slow as it will go. One time I forgot to uncouple the hose to the head variable speed on an M2 with floating sickle and the only thing I noticed was the head shook like the end of the world was coming. It didnt change cutting, however. I have best luck in beans when the reel is as low as it will go and as far back as possible without hitting the auger. Tom in MN

Well we lowered the cutter bar and reset the AHHC to run where we wanted it. It cut so well that it only left stubble. I couldn't have gotten a better cut, and I didn't speed it up either. We like some stubble because our soil has lots of rocks and that lets us skim over a lot of them. We were running in some pretty good standing beans and we were able to run 3mph, no sweat, no slugging, and leaving a nice cut. What I was trying to say before was thanks to everyone who helped me get my machine to run like this. Curt
