The l2 would have about 20% more capacity, its a 10" wider machine with everything else being the same front to back. the M2 you are looking at may be as new as 82 model, I believe the changed to M3 in 1983. With any luck it will have the bigger motor, most came with the 301 @ 130hp, the larger was 158hp.your heads should swap out, the only thing would be the hook up driveshafts. I have always heard the M series had fewer problems than the l's. Bin size is 20 bushel less also. I ran an M2 for 8 years, seemed like a great day would be 30 acres in 40 bushel beans, some days better than others. I had a 315 head and 4-38 picker, seemed most days would run as fast as you could pay attention to any hazards. Wide 3_4" bars are a must for corn and beans, narrow are ok for wheat but we never switched them out, was easier to speed it up. You know, with 3100 hrs on it check the augers and raddle chains for wear, we had to replace our elevator chains and boards at 2700 hrs and most others at 2900 or so. Good luck

Minniehill, I have a l2 and two M2's. I agree with gleamer. They are both fine machines. The l2 being wider has more load on the bearings and shalfs, so it may have a few more problems than the M2. The heads will interchange with each other. I run a 320 on my l2 and a 20 and 15 foot on my M2,s all are flexheads. A 1984 would be a M3. Good luck at the sale.

A M with a 15' grain head and a 4 row corn head will keep up with a l with a 20' grain head and a 6 row corn head. With the same size heads you will be harvesting 25% less in a day with a M.
