Combines Concave and Rattle Chains in l3 Gleaner

Hey Bull, I've used loewen raddle chains in l2, nothing wrong with them. I always used what is priced the best. I used Sunnybrook 9 bar concave with 4 filler bars to do wheat and flax. I've heard that guys disconnect the thresher raddle if they are having trouble threshing flax.

What is the purpose of the filler strips in the concave and are 4 filler strips better than 2 strips. I bought an loewen 9 bar modified concave and loewen raddle chains with square tubes welded to the chain instead of the z-bar slats. The loewen raddle chains work as well as factory you sayIJI'm from central ND about 75 miles north of Bismarck. Afew combines are rolling around here but my crop is about a week away.Have you done any hyperizeing to your l2 to make it perform better that could be done to an l3.

loewen raddle chain work as well as OEM. The filler bars force every thing over the next concave bar resulting in a better thresh the first time through. Without the filler bars an unthreshed head or partly threshed head (white caps) is able to fall through the concave and has to be returned to be threshed. Sunnybrook concave and Harvest Services air foil chaffer were the only modifications I made. Air foil sure helps in barley and canola and flax.

Hey Terry, so your working on combines too. We got started on barley yesterday, hopefully it will go again tommorrow. loren's 9600 works pretty good, but whenever he pushes the button on the CB mic the header quits. I don't know exactly how the Gleaner concave is set-up but if it is like the JD I would diffently put the filler plates in, last year our 8820 didn't have filler plates and thier was alot of flax balls in the grain sample when we combined flax. loren had filler plates on his 7720 and the grain sample was really clean. This year we have three rows of filler plates on each combine concave and on our 8820 we pulled the back six inches of every other concave wire. Well, good luck with harvest.

I'm not sure what the cause of your header quiting is but seems to me some one else had the same problem on other combines also. Try checking on one of the combine talk shows IH and JD because I've heard of it before. I've got the raddle chains in and I'm going to put the new concave in tomorrow (HEAVY) takes 2 men to lift. Then I have to put in a few bearings and an armature in the electric clutch and charge the AC and I'm off to the feild for a trial run. Good luck on the header.
