Combines concave extensions

Very good question, I have a 1480 and saw one in a salvage yard that had been converted and wondered the same thing, if it would do any good. I believe the Idea is to have more concave area hense more rubbing surface, not the fact that you would also have more area for the grain to escape.I would like to here more opinions on the idea myself.

You can take a 1400 series machine and put a new left half of cage from a 1600 series and then put the extentions on you will also have more seperating area.

I think the extensions allow a little more threshing to occur, so I wouldn't say they hurt anything. But, if I were working on an old machine I wouldn't spend money to add them either. I would rather cover up more of the standard concaves with an additional coverplate if I had too. Do you ever have a problem with rotor lossIJ Are the vanes slowed downIJ

Hi Mike,Rotor loss is not really much of a problem because we don't get into the hard to thresh crops.We use most of our corn for feed so quality is a direct benefit and clean grain is so much easier to keep in top shape through the hot months without drying down so much.Also most of our beans go through a local dealer that roasts them for dairy feed and pods catch on fire and cause trouble in his roaster.We do a little local custom work , but can't compete with contractors with multiple machines on speed or acres covered so my edge must be grain quality..I'm just looking to tweak here and there and get better sample each year..RR beans have added challenges to this..You commented before about your crossflow fan which seemed to make sense in the light of how bin fans work as you increase static pressure,ie. as the pressure increases the axial blade fans are better at keeping the volume up .
