Combines Concave shock kit

The smooth "pans" look like what they use up here when harvesting fragile pinto beans, that is also why they would have the shock kit installed. lots of clumps of green vines going into the combine. I have had the loewen shock kits on both of my combines for atleast 5 years, and would not run an IH rotor without them. They really shine in tough field pea harvest,or almost any crop where clumps of tough green material has to pass through. Much less strain on the concave and mounts, plus much harder to slug the rotor. The only time I have managed to slug the rotor with green material was when the slug was over the seperator grates, never over the spring loaded concaves. I have walked beside the combine while harvesting really nasty green stuff, the concave indicator pointer will spring down several numbers, then return to the correct setting once the slug has run through.

Not trying to keep a secret, just not much time to type everything. I plan on putting a raddle chain system inside which is about the same with as some older machines. Slanted angle iron would go above the chain links so they don't wrap and bind. The idea of this would be to stop the one side of the sieves loading and would distribute the load equally, thus increasing seperating capacity, doing a better job, and increasing overall capacity and cleanliness of the sample. The same drive sytem can be used and an automatic chain tensioner would keep it tensioned. I have tried some other ideas but this one looks promising. The auger system is not bad and not much maintenance but I am really fussy and want the best job possible.

thanks for the reply. Never heard of them before, looks like an excellent ideal, probably reasonably priced. thanks again.

The shock kits are available through loewen (Spell). They have a link from this website.I ran a shock kit on a 2166 for one season a couple years ago because I was taking in a few rocks. Also in late season beans because, as you know, they can sometimes be a little rough to get through without a lot of knocking and banging. It seemed to help, however it created some other challenges..... concave "hooks" on back side wore through the support pipe (changed to solid shaft) Also when the concaves are allowed to flex they can do a lot of moving up and down, creating additional ware at stress points. Couple times my concaves came loose from the backside, allowing them to fall down on the conveyor augers. I had this happen a couple times. I think the kits probably prevent some rotor and concave damage in certain conditions.Howeveer,I quit using them after the second time of ruining my conveyor augers.
