Combines concave wedgies

I saw them notes one time and couldn't figure how they could make that work out unless they had bent concave side arms. The P1s can just have back of concave adjusted back to get it to run very close to concentric with cylinder at corn settings. The early P3s that had side arms that had gave a bit can be adjusted very close to concentric with cylinder. Adjusting the rear of concave to say 1" and front to 1" on a P3 system will leave half way from front to rear at about 1 1_4". So what we do is adjust concave up to cylinder so it just clears on right rear and left rear. Set gauge to Zero. Then check and adjust front left and front right to .4" with the drawbolts and set gauges to MID. Now if you want concave to run as close as possible to concentric with cylinder at corn clearances you will need to move front up toward MIN a couple of marks from MID. Most of the posts I've seen hear is you are better off opening front toward MAX when in corn clearances. At that you would be running quite a wedge at front half of concave and rear of concave will be running at very little wedge. Very easy to just try one or the other while harvesting to see what works the best for you.

I've talked to my local dealers and have tried all possible combinations to eliminate cob breakup and finally settle on front concave a little towards MAX, rear set at about 1 1_8". More seems to breakup worse. Real key to cleaning sample was to close the chaffer and seive and reduce ground-speed to 3 mph in 200 bu corn. Best we've ever had. Running 1300-1500 bu_hr, good clean sample now. Just hard to go so slow. Cobs really seem soft this year. Maybe other varieties will be different. Thanks for the info. Rob.
