Randy, As for the last year the F3_M3_l3. The last year they were produced was 1987 under the Duetz Allis company. Someone later tried a project in Mexico to produce a l4 put it never panned out , I think a few were produced though. As far as size I have had a R 52 in the same field cutting beans, and they were in my opinion very simaliar in size. The 52 would be better in corn and the l2 would be better in green stem beans. The air cooled engines that we have ad on a R60 and R62 were very reliable. I would take a Rotor over a conventional evry time though. Hope this helps Illinois Gleaner

I totally agree that a rotor combine is better. My family dragged me into the dealership to buy the first R60 but it didnt take me long to discover a superior machine. Even though there have been some negative comments regarding the air-cooled engine, I really am impressed with mine because of the total lack of daily cleaning required. I did replace a couple of leaky fuel tubes so dust has nothing to cling to. Now pressure from the cooling fan blows dust and dirt out of the engine through the cooling fins. I question your comment about green stem beans. I have cut beans with the R60 that were so green the juices dripped out of the processor on the shop floor. My previous l2 and M2 would have been stopped in the field hopelessly plugged on beans that were that green. Tom in MN, the state where nothing is allowed

Tom, On the green stem beans. We use to have a 82' l2 and a 87'R60. If the beans had green stems the l2 would smoke the R60. The l2 had a 20 ft head and the 60 had a 24 ft head. Illinois Gleaner

What series heads on each and what sickle brandIJ I have seen a big difference in the type of sickle on cutting performance. Head series makes quite a differance in the feeding process too. I have a Herschel brand sickle on my N6-320 and it cuts far better than the new OEM sickle I had on the M2-316, OEM liked to push the beans over the Herschel makes a very good cut. I have heard the Crary is excellent too.

John, They were both 300 series heads. They both had the OEM sickel and guards in them. It just wouldnt take them through on the old 60. That was the first Duetz with no turbos, it was a little shy on ponies in my opinion. We now have a 62 and 72, all together different. Illinois Gleaner
