Combines converting flat screen 4400 to rotary screen using AC or IH parts

I used to havea 1973 4400 set up like that. Thescreen from a gleaner just sits in a slide track. The round screen is attached to a sqare box part. So all you have to do is make a little frame to bolt in place of the flat screen. You just make a slotted track in the frame. Then a gleaner rotarty screen drops in place. The gleaner screen even has a handle on the top to make it easy to pull up and out when you want to clean the radiator. You will need to buy a fan from a newer combne to change the air flow to suck in thru the rotary screen. The gleener screen spins by air movement, and it spins fast.

We had a flat screen gas 4400 that we converted this way, worked very well for 20 years. There are two other things to consider. The flat screen fan is on the outside. If all you do is reverse it you will be trying to force air through the radiator instead of draw it through. The shrouds and the like weren't designed for this and it doesn't work much better than the flat screens. We tried this and were disappointed. Then we went to a salvage and grabbed the interior fan from a 4400 or 6600 and used it to draw air through, temps dropped significantly. And lastly, when John Deere reversed the airflow they also changed the radiator design to one that is more "open" and allows the dirt that gets through the screens to go through instead of plug. As long as ou are at the salvage, find a rotary screen JD and look at the differences. Hope that this helps, Chuck
