Wilddog, One of the farmers I cut for in Oklahoma notills wheat into corn stubble. He uses a notill air planter. Usually raises good wheat on it. I would think running the stalks through the combine would cause more problems than just letting them stand. K.A.
Forget running the stalks through the combine. I don't think the rotor could handle all that material. A good no-till drill should be able to plant behind the combine. A chaff spreader is always a good idea when no-tilling to spread out the chaff row behind the combine. Chopping the stalks will just cause more problems if your using a disc opener drill. With a hoe air seeder you'll probably have to flail the stalks keep from plugging up the works.
Unit2, Do you have any problems cutting them a year laterIJ I have heard of troubles running the old stalks through the machine if you have to go down to pick up the wheat. Chuck
Chuckm, No, they don't cause any problems. By then they are so rotten they just go right through the combine. I cut a lot of soybeans that are notilled into corn stalks and that's the same way. K.A.
