Combines Corn Harvesting

Dale, When talking about removing back two rows of chaffer to let silks and small corn leaves blow out,you would be looking at the rear most louvers of top chaffer just in front of adjustable lever. This allows air to push debris that collects near rear under top chaffer. As for the snapping roll blade wear if you have more than 1" of radius at leading edge of blade you are going to lose the aggressiveness of rolls to be able to pull stalk down. With this wear you will find that the stalk will be pushed forward before being pulled down and this will sometimes lead to having an ear being thrown forward. Best thing you can do is to have new snapping roll blades chromed and that should be the last set you put on your cornhead. Price for chromed blades is approx. $30_blade. Hyper Harvest II

Sidekick, I put my cart before the horse. I should have checked current pricing. The current cost for Hugger snapping roll baldes (aftermarket) are $20.41_blade and then it costs $15.00_blade to chrome. The older black cornhead snapping roll blade costs $19.14_blade and then it costs $15.00_blade to chrome. We have a chrome supplier in Kansas that does our chroming. I have not seen any blades offered chrome yet. We did mention it to engineering at Hesston but haven't seen or heard anything yet. I do happen to have a set of chromed blades from a 6-row black cornhead that are 3-4 yrs. old and customer was going to trade head last year so I bought him a set of standard blades to replace chrome blades. I need $20_blade to cover cost of replacement blade and frt..Be glad to sell them. Hyper Harvest II
