Combines corn head grease

Is there a "MIl-SPEC" number on the box or cartrigesIJ You can use that number to cross reference the characteristics of the grease to other brands. If there is one, get a hold of your dealer and ask him what MIl-SPEC is specified for your head. With older equipment you would probably be ok, but if it is newer, then it gets a bit tricky. High Temp does not mean better grease, it is an indication that is will work at a higher temperature. Most ag applications, unless specifically call for High Temp, will use general purpose (lithium) grease. If you use High Temp in bearings that require general purpose grease, the bearing will not be lubricated until it gets hot enough to melt the grease, then I may be too late, you will be greatly shorting the life of the bearing. High Temp grease is like stick butter from the fridge. You have to get it hot to spread it. Where general purpose is more like margerine(bread spread). I hope that was a descent explaination.

Been using JD corn head grease off and on for years. Maybe the same people fill the tube anyway.

take it from experience, some greases will NOT mix even though they are rated EPO. We had a customer who mixed COOP corn head grease, and its nothing wrong with this grease except when mixed w_ factory oem EPO and it turned to clay like substance and oil. Oil leaked out the seals and plugged the fan. Put in new seals and it still leaked the oil that resulted. This went on for years. Finally found the problem . Also it is a problem to over grease these units. Agco sells two typss of EPO - 707003 is the SYNTHETIC grease for disc mowers and 79014732 is petrol based which is in the corn heads. They will not mix either. The corn head grease at under $3 a tube is a good invesment. Of all the hugger corn heads we have sold we have only worked on very few gearboxes for failures - most of them were rock damaged -and the two that leaked oil. OEM grease is a safe way to keep em running.

less than $3.00 per tubeIJ last time I bought the Agco stuff from local dealer he charged over $8.00 per tube. He also sold New Holland and said most of his Gleaner guys were using NH corn head grease as it was only $2.50 per tube. Note he also has most of the bearings cross reference between NH and Gleaner and sells the NH bearings cheaper.

747003 synth is about that - don't use syn unless you wipe out the old stuff and just want to feel better about syn lube which is better. Check the n's - call his hand. Keep us 'honest'
