Combines Corn Head vs Planter size IJ

I am not familiar with the Case set-up but I do know that with the autotrac or whatever JD calls their gps system that when you get into hills there will be a gap as your planter will slide slightly and the tractor is not able to correct this. As for on flat ground autotrac works fine as long as it has be set properly for spacing. Not sure if this really answers your question but it may be food for thought.

Several people around here do just what you are wanting to do with very little problems, there is probably about 30000 acres of sweet corn planted with all different sizes of planters and picked with same size corn head, with out the auto steer, so yours should work ok and maybe some day if you get a 8010 you can go with 16 row head hope this helps.

Neighbor planted with the GPS stuff on his Deere this spring. Don't think I'll be scrapping the markers just yet. Where there were "irregularities" in the field, sometimes the rows actually crossed, and don't even talk about contours. Chads

We ran a 16row 1200 planter last year. Unbeleivable accuracy. A fun planter to run. Delivered from the dealer set ready to roll, made a few depth adjustments and never touched a thing the rest of the season. We ridge-till, Put a set of Yetter trash whippers on and no guidance system and it stayed right on top of the ridge.

Not all that familiar with the Auto-guide, I assume its a trimble product. Make sure you keep the receiver hot if and when you go in for lunch or if you have to turn the key off on your tractor. Are you RTK or DGPS. Dou you have a knudgeIJ IF DGPS you will have to use it once in awhile. Don't always trust the computer, check with the marker. IF DGPS naturally its more accurate with more SATs. I can change the receiver offset on the go and I like it over another brand, just in case you are sharing or moving receivers. There seems to be some issue for us... ever so slight change in offset from day to day (don't ask me why) But overall I bet you will be pleased to have GPS steering.

We run a 12row planter without any guidance of any sort and combine with an 8row corn head never had a problem. We have been doing it since our first 8820 was new in 1981 many combines and many planters later we are still doing it. So if you are scared of auto steer not working they must not be that good. All you have to do is plant straight. We also cultivate with an 8 row. The best advice is to have the person planting also runs the combine. That way when they are planting they are thinking of how they are going to combine it .
