nebraska farmer; Providing the hydraulic fluid is not low or overheated, and the hydraulic pump is in good working order, maybe the relief valve needs to be set up so it's not "blowing" too soon. Does it raise the grain head okIJ Did you have a 6 row corn head before thisIJ Maybe "iaremec" from this page can field this one better. About the alternator thing, I wouldn't even turn the key without an intact alternator properly installed.

yes the small grain platform raises just fine, up and down real smooth and all the way up. i bought the combine without any heads, bougtht both heads at auction as i could afford. it raises and lowers the 6 row head good but will only raise about a foot and a half off the ground, the fluids are at the full mark, the filters replaced, where is the relief valve locatedIJ there seems to be a few pages missing from my owners manuel, my dealer said he'd try to get me a new manuel for it. there are several turn valves under the cab, do these need to be turned on_off when switching headsIJ i haven't moved anything because the platform and hydr reel works so well, i didn't want to mess anything up for that!! i went out last night to harvest more corn, just about finished and my corn head found a tree branch, before i could shut it off, it stopped. now the head won't start, could i have blown a fuseIJ the machine and heads start by a toggle switch. guess i'm not to keen to all this new fangled stuff. you guys sure have been helpful, i appreciate your help!! as for the alternator thing, i left the front half of it on, just to keep the belts tight, it is free wheeling, and accept for the alarm pestering me in the cab, it seems to be doing ok. i hope to finish corn today if i can get the cornhead to run again. i'll let ya'll know.

NF is your combine a manual valve or electric over hydraulic. If you used the cable automatic header height control you have to turn the coupling that looks like a quick coupler out to lock out the header control when using the corn head. easier explained by pictures which i can e-mail you if this is the case..Check drive belts on the header as one probably jumped or broke..

if you have all those valves it ia a manual. sounds like you may be lifting with two cyl. open valve a and close valve c and you will be lifting with 3 cylinders. if i remember right you can change relief capsules. real easy. we had to do it to pick up 8 row cornheads.when new. the higher you raise the more relief pressure is needed because of angles. could put gauge on to see what pressure.you have. relief is in the valve.

thanks iaremec, when i take the grain platform off, i disconnect the hyd hoses from the head and re-plug them back into couplers on the combine, so they will stay clean, as for the auto head control, i never use it, always run my head manually, i have that cable tied up under the cab out of the way. the header lift is manual with the 1st lever to the right of the hydro stick. my on_off is the toggle switches for both the machine and heads. should i not re-connect the hoses under the cabIJ

thanks steve, i checked the belts on the throat, everything is ok there, no belts on the cornhead itself that i can see. which quik-couplerIJ turn it outIJ you mean like unscrew itIJ there are like 3 turn valves under the cab, is there a certain combination on those that needs to done for cornhead liftIJ

thanks redhot...you all must think i'm a quart low here, i'm used to gleaners, having them for past 15 years, never had a diesel combine and never had a hydro before. i'm still learning on this machine and you guys have been a great asset to my learning experiences, this will probably be the last combine i'll own before retiring. it's been quite a good machine so far, some things i still like better on the gleaners over this combine, but i'll survive!! this combine has been great as the only break downs in the past 3 years has been a broken sickle (not combines fault) and now this thing with the alternator and wiring (still not the combines fault). i can make it thru harvest this year the way it is as soon as i can get the corn head to start again, then i'll pull it in my shop for repairs this winter. where is the relief valve you are talking about redhotIJ

wow, your used to gas burnin' gear drive gleaners! I dont know how you did it, you must think your in heaven other than the corn head problem. A possiblity to look for is the hydralic relief valve may be set at a low pressure and poping off when hydralic pressure is applied. just something to look for.
