Combines corn over the shoe

Use to have an M and had similiar problems. Probable reason for more loss when leaning to the right is return elevator dumping in a little more grain on the right side. Probable reason for loss to be worse going uphill is a slight reduction in engine rpm's due to pulling uphill and grain sliding over the sieves easier since angle is reduced going uphill. (you can probaly really fill her up when going downhill). Only thing I tried that had some success was to cut the fins off the rear corners of the chaffer. About the last 6 rows and in about 4 inches from the edge. helped quite a bit. Got the idea from JD as they were doing that on the 7720's and 8820's. They actually had removable sections made in their chaffers to remove for the problem you describe.

We had an l2 and battled the same problem in our hills. The chaffer mod did help alot if you opened the front section wide open.We had sidehill raddles front and back and it didn,t help much. When you work fulltime and farm partime it is extremely frustrating going soooooo slow.

chaffer levelers, over upper and lower raddle as well as shoe, raise eng rpm by 100 rpm , remove metal curtain over raddle, IF you have chain drive thresher beater install 25 or 30 tooth spkt on cylinder. Front Walker extentions are availble through parts to install on side walkers front end. As stated take the rear 5 rows of louvers on the side sections and bend straight up the little tabs on the long finger round end chaffer. Must have long finger chaffer. Run max air possible. Or get a R series and the accel rolls..... Even though the sidehill raddle has some advantages it is not a major help. The corn falls straight down from raddle to shoe, if the combine is at a 5 deg slope only downhill 2_3 of the front shoe ever gets any grain even if the grain was perfectly dist over the raddle. lAw of gravity

tbran, could you explain what the levers are, you talked about. Do you leave tips of chaffer up on level ground. thanks dean

it is frustrating.on the level ground with the modified chaffer you can flat out go,get to the sidehills and you can drive stakes. what number would you guys run your choke on in cornIJ

What is a modified top chaffer, something you did yourself or something Gleaner offersIJ What is it, what is it supposed to doIJ

its shown in the hyper mods section.basically devides the chaffer up into three sections instead of two, allowing you to open the front 6 to 8 inches wider.getting the corn off the shoe quicker

yes as usually those customers had abundance of unlevel fields. Gleaner made long and short chaffer levelers. Holes are predrilled in side of shoe . They are metal flappers fastened at front that knocked the grain away from the down hill side. We also installed them over thresher and separator raddles as well. Any build up would be forced to the middle. With these and this set up we could out perform any other combine on side hills unless it was a sidehill mac$hine

Could anyone give some specs or post a picture of the levelersIJ What size flat iron would you use and what angle do you bend itIJ How far (clearance) above the raddle or chaffer should it beIJ This is for a '78 M2.
