I assume you are talking about the chains on the black series heads. If so then when we had that head we went to the heavy series of chain and got more life out of it. I believe it was a size 60 and we ran the 60H. If you look at the two side by side you will see how much heavier it is. Hope this helps Kirk

The Diamond brand or the chain John Deere sells has held up well for me. I use 60H if there is room for it.

Pete, definitely buy the best chain you can find like Diamond brand chain. Secondly, dont tighten chains too tight. I found that was the main reason I had to replace chains on my black corn head. I think sprocket teeth are not concentric with sprocket bores so they go from sloppy loose to too tight every revolution. I play around with it so there is always some slack when sprockets are at their high points. Do you get any life out of the chain on the top of the clean grain elevatorIJ The only way I can get that one to last longer than 1 day is to keep about 1 of slack in it and even then, it gets tight if both sprockets are at their high points simultaneously.
