There a big difference between the 974 and the earlier 962 cornhead. (I think thats the number) The 962 had the upper drive although I think there was a conversion for them. Also, look at the tin, the 962 snouts have a piano hinge type for narrowing it up, while the 974 has bolt holes and slots. Another big difference is the rollers, with the 962 using a four blade type and the 974 using a much better fluted roller. Yep some of the 974 were a different color yellow.

Old 974's can not be ran back-ward. They started making the 974 for TR75_85_95's in about 1980 I think. The model number and ser. number is on the lower left side of the corn head I thinkIJ You can tell the year by the ser. number, but I forgot how. Any dealer would know. Ilnh

The 962 had a couple drawbacks yes, but it's gearboxes where bullet proof! It just needed a little refining. Overall a better header than the 974 IMHO. JD

Yep, looked this weekend, and it's a 974. It's a good head, but that color just doesn't match. Oh well, whatever gets the job done.

Harv's will make you an adapter. You'll have to pay for its initial set-up though if one has never been built.

back in the 80's we use to buy wide cornheads cheap and our blacksmith would rebend to make 30 inch. you might find one that would make it reasonable to do. the 38's make a deeper dish to hold ears than 30's standard.

I have the five middle snouts and the right side divider off of a 1063. They are steel and not bent. The left side folded under the head when the aluminum block let loose. email me if you are interested. I live west of Iowa City, Iowa about 22 miles. Steve
