Combines cotton pickers

the heads are extremely complicated, and very high maintenance. Hundreds of spindles and bars and other moving parts. Pickers with 500 or less hours are still very expensive but when they get about 2000 to 3000 hours they are not hardly worth anything due to the money it takes to rebuild the heads. Besides the amount of fuel they burn, you also have to have a water wagon handy to keep water for the moisture pads, and a ton of bar grease to keep the heads lubed. Just bought a used 1844 picker last week with several hours, kind of scary to see the amount of maintenance it will take compared to my cotton stripper and combine. Im sure that there are several people on this site or the IH site that can give you a more detailed description.

well we farm cotton in nc and use to run case ih machines but the 2155 was not a good machine. A lot of people run deeres most popular is 9965 but the 9976 and 9986 6 row machines are starting to take over. I am trading a 9970 4 row for a 9976 this fall. But in my opinion deeres are easier to work on and maintain
