Combines CR 920 Questions

Newholland, I was thinking like you that maybe a 920 is big enough for me also. All I have seen is a 970 so I have no ideal what the smaller ones look like. If the hopper can be made bigger I think it would work ok for me too. My TR-98 has more power than I need(25' grainhead and 8 row corn head). They call the 920 a class 5 combine but I don't think any other class 5 could handle a 30' head as good as the 920. If you find out more let me know. later, Ilnewholland

NH is not much interested in the 920. They think the volume of sales will be low. I see no reason why you couldn't put an extension on the grain tank. NH is not going to offer it though. The 920 is really almost as heavy as the 940 or 960 too. I wouldn't question the capacity of the 920 unless it would be in it's clean grain elevator in corn and HP.

See I think the ONlY differences are HP and grain tank. The elevator should be the same. That's why I think the 300 bushel extensions for the 940 should fit on the 920. Could just buy them from parts. My dealer is trying to find out. A 920 could be short of power. I run a 30' bean head and 12 row 22" corn head on my 89. It is sometimes short of power, but not often. The 920 is 10 HP more I think. Maybe with the extra weight they will be about the same.

I just talked to a NH combine factory rep at a farm show this last week, and asked him the same question. He said that internally, these three machines are identical. The main difference is in the engine. The 920 has an engine in it with lighter pistons, rods, and crank etc. It's power level cannot be safely boosted beyond where is is at, even though it is the same block as the 940 and 960. This combine is to replace the TR89, and he said it will not do what a TR98 will do, simply because of combine weight. He figure it would be about the exact same capacity as a TR89.

Dustmaker, I think the CR960 has an Iveco Engine. The 920 and 940 have the same size of engines. The difference is that the 940 has an electronically controlled Fuel Incection Pump is what the Sales rep told me. Pete

You are right, the engine size is the same, its the internal parts that are different - Piston weight, crank and rod weight etc.

You are also correct in that the 960 has the Iveco engine. Only the smaller two have the Genesis.
