Combines CR series

Silver Shoes, I am no expert on the CR's so I may not know what I am talking about here. The CR combine is a full feature combine. You will not find all the features on it on any other combine except maybe the Cat. All of this comes with a price and more weight also. New Holland has always been a more complex drive combine than a Gleaner. I have looked Gleaners over good also as my uncle has a R-52 and I find some things not there that I have on my TR. I can not belive that you can not adjust the concave from the cab, and can't adjust the fan speed. It seems to work OK for you guys, but it is what you are used to running I suppose. I look at the CR and I can not say I would not have this or that on there(except maybe the heated mirrors) and they should of made this smaller and weaker here or there. If every thing is made good and strong it should last a long time. A lot of this new combine was tested on the TX combines before and the CR has been tested for many years so I will give New Holland some leyway on the new combine. They needed a change to get some of you other color people to look at it and that seems to be working. We will know in a few years if they did the right thing and the performance of it. I think a Gleaner is a good combine also but they will need a bigger change than the new R75 is to get people to look at it. Time will tell how this all works out! Ilnewholland

All gleaners from the 70's to present have a air adjustment that works great. around 1998 they made the concave adjustable from the cab, it is opt. I think changing the machine any more than they did with the R75 is unecessary there is very little changes desired by there owners.

Good observations. The CR is indeed a full-featured combine that will undoubtedly be complex to operate, given some of the operators of combines these days. Impressive, but a tad intimidating in my opinion. It was, not surprisingly, based heavily on the CX and one gets the impression that the rotors were an afterthought. Again, not surprising, given the sales numbers of TX's greatly outnumbered the number of TRs sold. In any case, like the Claas, and as I look at the Claas and the NH, there are many, many similarities, it is a European machine. Heavy, relatively complex, and very sophisticated. Not saying that's good or bad; just not what we North Americans are used to. Anyway, the Gleaner does not use an adjustable speed fan. It has a choke plate regulating air flow while the fan runs at constant speed. Simple and effective as there are no variable speed sheaves and belts to worry about. And the concave is adjustable from the cab with digital readout as standard on the new R65_75. And the cab on the new Gleaners is comparable to the CR. Both offer great visibility and room and comfort, but the Gleaner cab is much simpler to operate. One can put a trained monkey in that cab and he can run it in 5 minutes. I'm not so sure an astronaut would be able to run the CR without a few days instruction, at least on the InfoView monitor. My 1.5 cents. Happy New Year to all.

I have to say that the CR is very easy to use if you did a demo with it. I did this fall and I was a pro with a CR970 in two rounds shelling corn with a 12 row head. It is very easy to drive and turns on a dime(could out turn a 1660 with a 6 row on the ends). The info view seemed to work great. I really think people have to see and drive this combine to understand it. I would bet that Gleaner will have some of New Holland's features in a few years. Is the CR perfectIJ NO! I am sure their will be many improvements on the CR5's someday. All new combines seem to work good nowdays. Just seems to be what one person looks for and expects from a combine, dealer and company that makes one combine better for some and not others. I have to say I like the CR controls better than the new Gleaners and the CR cab also. I do like how the Gleaner engine is out of everything and can walk around it. No perfect combine made yet! Happy New Year, IlNH
