Put the chopper on the high speed (small) pulley in the back, spread the vanes on the tail board way out and raise tail board if is down and speed up the chaff spreader hydraulic and raise the chaff spreader up so the fans are near parallel with the ground. It worked for me.

Depending on which straw spreading system you have, New Holland will be addressing the straw spreading on the CR's before next season.

Our nieghbors have 3-970's last year and part way though harvest they put a redacopp chopper on one of the combines. The new holland choppers was not spreading very far at all.The redacopp chopper was spreading 30 feet plus. That made our choice easy,we odered our Cr-970 without a chopper and getting our dealer to put a redacopp chopper on which will spread chaff also.Which was another complaint also.

Willie, were you aware that the 2004 production of CR's has an improved chopper setupIJ I saw one at our dealer in Il. last week. It has a draper behind the beater to carry the straw back to the chopper. I can't tell how far it will spreadIJ I had very little trouble with the CR940 last summer. Only in very green long oats straw did it not throw the straw back to the chopper.Who makes the chopper you are talkng about and where is it availableIJ

Back when we had our TR 96 we put one on mostly because we were looking at putting a chaff spreader on to do 0-till but didn't really like the way that a chaff spreader gets in the way when adjusting the sieves and we also wanted a finer cut than what the TR 96 chopper had. We liked that chopper enough that when we traded to our TR 98 we kept the chopper and put it on the 98. We liked the improvements on the 98 chopper but still preferred the setup when it came to spreading the chaff. If you take a look at the website they have a new MAV model that fits the Cr's and CX's. They are built in Saskatchewan. If you want to take a look at a chopper made by Redekop all you need to do is take a look at a 50 series or newer John Deere combine because when the 50 series came out Deere just put the Redekop on instead of making their own chopper.

Yes ,I did know that they were making changes on there chopper but I could not take the chance of having a poor quaility spread like they had this year.We use 36' straight cut header and double swath some of our land into 60' swaths. We also zero-till.This site is one of the best farm sites on the web.
